I have found a new electrical software on Internet: Simaris Design Basic. It is a software for electrical installation calculation: short-circuit calculations, cables sizing and protection devices choice and settings. This is a new version. I knew the old version of this software – 1.5, which is not available any more.
I have downloaded the software from Internet. The good point is that it is available in several languages (the previous version was only in German and English).
This design software has the following functionalities:
- Output rating requirements of the feeders
- Cable cross sections and number of cores required for the LV power cables/lines
- MV switchgear and LV protective devices
- Distribution board type and enclosure space requirements
There is an export to Word and Autocad, which is a good point.
However, a lot of components are still missing, there is no power factor correction, no UPS and the motor starting is very limited.
Also, there is no enough information about the Standards used in the software (for short-circuit calculation, cables sizing and etc.). According to Internet, the software is dimensioned according to the VDE and IEC standards, but which exactly ?

of course you cant use some components like ups but for calculation you don’t need this components.it is about desing not about calculation.there are some problems about simaris but at the all i think it is useful program.the main question is this? why i have to use this program cause i can create some documents with excel.simaris have to be more useful.

I am so glad see you guys exploring SIMARIS design since I am a promoter for this tool. I just wanna tell Christian Petrov that in the latest version which launched in April, 2009 as (SIMARIS Design 5.0) the motor starters is very detailed. You can select a DOL, start-delta, softstarter or even a VFD.
Also, you can size your power factor correction by checking the Kvar value. then you can add a capacitor based on this value.
I do agree that still you can’t use UPS. Hoping this will be added shortly.
Regarding the standards SIMARIS follows for all calculation, you can find it once you run your input as “Project documentation”. In the last page, you’ll find all standards in details.
