ParticipantI have an LED T8 tube, 1.2m, on 240VAC it draws about 80mA and it has 18W. I do have compared it with a 1.2m fluorescent T8 tube, 36W plus ballast which has on 240 VAC 400mA. The current I have measured with an AC multimeter. Means the LED light saves 5 times the power. If I compare the 18W to 36W plus ballast (around 8W). I have measured this with a Watt-meter. So my question is : On the electric bill, do i save half the money or do I save about 5 times the money ? Thanks for lighten me up.

Keymasteryou save half of you money because you consumption of power i half the wattage. and half the consumption is half the bill. but with exemption if the utility company has a minimum charges of power bill…

KeymasterFluorescent bulbs contain mercury and pose a danger to the environment. Some may be required to pay for disposal of fluorescent bulbs. If the bulb breaks, it contaminates it's surroundings icluding food. Proper clean up can be expensive. led light bulbs use less energy than a Compact Fluorescent for the same light output. led strip lighting

ParticipantFluorescent tubes give off a lot less heat than other types of lights therefore meaning that in hot climates or hot weather you will not get as hot just from the light being turned on. When LED lighting becomes more commonly available, the light bulbs will look even stranger than the coiled tubes of the compact fluorescents.
