    if generator is not operating on fullload it consumes basic fuel,and other resources,means you are not lossing 15MW of power but by not optimising generator you loss fuel required to operate 20mw instead of opeate 5mw generator,and  fuel required to operate generator of 5mw in full load is less than fuel required to operate 20mw DG in 5MW load

    If you load 2tons on a truck of 18 tons, where does 16 tons go?

    If you can answer this, you have answered your question.

    Power Formula :

                              P= E.V.Sin δ / X

    (Generator)

    (Load) Ø angle

      (δ-ø)                X

    If load runs Ø angle then generator produce load w.r.t (δ-Ø) angle.

    Where E = Energy,

                V = Voltage,

                δ = Power factor angle

                X = Reactance

    if a generator is generating 20MW and only 5MW is used you have two cases . case one if this generator is connected to a grid ,then the 15 MW will be consumed in the grid. case 2 , if this generator in feeding the load directly it will never reach 20 MW , only the speed and the frequency will increase but the generator power will remain 5 MW.

    P=T.w  , p is the power , t is torqur, w is the angular speed , w=2.pi .f

    If your generator install capacity is 20MW. Consumers used 5MW loading. Generator will generate 5MW.

    consumer cannot used and generator cannot operate over 20MW.

    eg. A man can lift 1ton.When he lift 0.5ton, his arm forced 0.5 ton on the mass

    If a generator is generating 20MW and only 5MW is used where does the other 15MW goes?

    1- Goes to auxiliary of all electrical equipments that ensure the properly working electrical system.

    2- Goes to loss( permanent and variable loss) in all electrical equipments such as transformers, conductors, mortors, compensators  that we cannot disconnect from the voltage of line.

    But if your question is real, I thing your generator surly will  tripped due to over frequency relay is working. If is not real, I thing  is the …… question.

    That's your answer…

    The generator is capable of 20MW   but only does it when required.

    generators generally install with the req load calculations,but if u have intalled a 20 MW GEN SET instead 5MW+20% safety factor than u will loss ur fuel, and money.

    Dera Tibbie ;

    First, the power of all sources is ” … kVA ” and not in ” …W “.

    About your Generator :

    As we know all a ” source ” either Generator or Transformer can supply the installed loads, so, the circulated current and consumed power are relative to the loads and not to the source, and we say that the source is ready to supply the loads till to total loads' power will be approximately equal to the source's power with certainly some percentage of reserve.

    In your case, you will have some losses of fuel and will have a mechanical damage in the engine, because we should consume at least 45-50% of the generator's power once running and not less.

    dear

    yes , The rating of generator is in kva not in kw.

    if load is 5MW, then generator will produce power according to load. It does not produce rated power all the time. some power lost as reactive power in kvar and active power is used in kw which may be 5MW, 6MW,15MW etc upto 20MW

    Dear friend,

     Generation depends upon the load .So it is rated in KVA and not in KW.If the load on the system increases during peak hours,what is happening in generating stations? Say some hydel stations ,having  generating capacity several MVA,they generate MVA only depending upon the load requirement.That means during peak time more water (or fuel in other cases) is supplied to the prime mover and hence more MW is generated.If u use only 5 MW ,it means only 5 MW is generated by the machine and not 20 MW(20 mw is the maximum loaded capacity of the machine)  okay…….

    with regards
