For smart grids applications in medium voltage networks, I wonder which type of protection is the most suitable, circuit-breaker or fuse ?

In terms of service continuity, integration of renewable energy, network management in general …

If you don’t care about the cost, circuit breaker is suitable.

I total agree with the point that circuit breaker more convenence in operation than fuse. In case of failure of electrical system such as overvontage or short circuit.etc, you have to replace the old fuse by new one, in the other hand, if you use circuit breaker, one action you must do is turn switch on. :)

However, if your budget is limited, fuse-disconnector is the best solution that saving your investment almost 50%.

From your question: ” In terms of service continuity, integration of renewable energy, network management in general …”, circuit breaker is prefered.Smile

Related with your money. But the grid is smart, so the circuit breaker is better
