Describe the commutator and commutation??

commutators r responsible for 2 imp functions in dc machines –

1) conversion of ac to dc (rectifier) in dc generator and from dc to ac (inverter) in dc motor

2) it also keeps the armature mmf wave stationary in space

commutation is the process of current reversal in the coils short circuited by the brushes
