Wireless motion sensor project

Hello all,

I am working on a home project and the idea consists of this, an infrared sensor trips on motion transmitting a signal to a wireless receiver to close the contact on a relay which releases a magnetic lock.  I would like to be able to have these components battery powered.  That is the concept i am tinkering with and would appreciate any knowledge imparted to me.  Such as a list of materials that would make this work, resources to which I can do some research to obtain the skills necessary to complete this project or any knowledge that would assist me in this endeavor.
