Hello, I have an unusual question for you all. I'm writing a book about the Brain-Mind interaction and i need an everyday example of this relationship. Think of it in this way. There are 3 boxes in a row: The first box is a battery; The second (Middle) box some sort of equipment/ machine/ device (this is where i need your help) ; and, the Third box is a fixed Load (say for example a 100watt light globe – It doesn't matter what this Load is though). What type of common equipment/ machine/ device could continue to keep the 100watt globe (any similar fixed Load) burning brightly (operating at the same level) by drawing MORE from the battery? I assume this device would rapidly drain the battery but the important point is that it can maintain a certain level of performance above a given voltage level. Can you help, Thank you all, Syd
There is, in fact, such a device and it is used in a lot of battery operated products like cell phones, portable computers, and more. The device is a DC-DC converter that takes power in at a steadily decreasing rate while it provides a reliable and steady output voltage. This is necessary to keep the electronics operating in a predictable way. Without it, the circuitry would become unstable and a characteristic failure mode would become apparent.
