I would like to share a problem I face when I have to install a device type 1 in high power . I already asked this question on another blog, and I’m trying to get more feedbacks from electrical engineers.

The situation is very “unconfortable” for me as a quality provider, because if a short-circuit of high value happens, though luckily probability is low, it would mean very serious safety risks …

It’s Good to have in mind practical aspects: case of a low voltage  switchboard To achieve the effective installation of the , the surge arrester’s connections to the grid should be as short as possible. Any cable crossed by a impulse current has a significant voltage to be added to the Device (SPD) residual voltage.

after 15 years of experience I feel important to come back to some basics

Protection against the destructive effects should be considered globally.
To avoid the fire of a building we will use the “external”   system such as conductor or meshed cage.
In the same way, we will install Surge Arrester or
(also called SPD, Surge Protective Device) in the Electrical main board to protect sensitive electrical equipment against surges generated by strokes fell close or directly on the building.
15 years of experience in the field of lead me to write that the technology and understanding of phenomena has evolved. However, further issues have to be clarified … (more…)
