Some of these automatic multiple transfer switches also support over current protection and are designed as per the guidelines stated in NEC, which are deemed as yardsticks, as far as measuring the standards within the electrical industry is concerned.

These transfer switches are held mechanically, and are operated electrically, directly from the power source. They are known to transfer the load to the electrical equipment with greater reliability and accuracy when compared to the conventional switches. These switches are normally placed at the mains or at the secondary bus distribution terminal, and are responsible to feed the load to various branch circuits.

There is a distinct difference between a recloser and a circuit breaker. The circuit breaker breaks the circuit in case of a fault. It requires manual reset. The recloser on the other hand momentarily closes a circuit in case of a fault, and then automatically restores service after the fault clears. Do note that majority of line faults clear automatically after a short period. A recloser thus offers two primary benefits.

The primary function, or purpose of a mobile substation is to provide temporary restoration to power supply through circumventing faulty or damaged low and medium voltage substation systems(up to 245kv) and equipment. Harsh weather conditions and natural disasters are usually the main cause of damage to substations.

The MS allows for the procurement of the required repair equipment, grid component, as well as reduced disruption to power supply.
