Power losses reduction in electrical distribution
June 29th, 2009 | 28 Comments | Posted in Electrical distribution, Electrical softwareTags: electrical installation, Electrical software, power losses
Reducing power losses by optimizing equipment locations
Do you realize that power losses in a electrical installation could represent up to 7 % of the electrical consumption ?
LV cables and transformers are the most contributors to these operating losses, around 95 % as shown here below

I have found a new electrical software on Internet: Simaris Design Basic. It is a software for electrical installation calculation: short-circuit calculations, cables sizing and protection devices choice and settings. This is a new version. I knew the old version of this software – 1.5, which is not available any more.

Part 2 : Is BIM going to be the next revolution in building electrical design? (read part 1 here)
BIM concept (Building Information Modelling) is also promoted out of the US through building SMART International (formerly International alliance for Interoperability, IAI) which recommends a data standard for BIM: IFC (Industry Foundation Classes). I heard about projects requiring BIM design in Northern Europe…

Part 1 : Building Information Modelling : BIM – a new concept in Building Design
I recently spent one week in the US and I had the opportunity to meet several design engineers dealing with large governmental buildings. It seems that they invest a lot in new design software based on the BIM concept…
Software for electrical installation

I find the existing software for the calculation of Electrical Installation difficult and long to use. Sometimes, I need to make a simple calculation or verification and I do not need to create a complete network to do it
Recently I have discovered some small calculators, some of them are too much simplified, but I find the idea good. There is for example… (more…)
